The Tomorrow Log and Dragon Tide
by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller

The Tomorrow Log
from the Authors of the
Liaden Universe® Adventures

Meanwhile, on another side of the Universe . . .

Meet Gem ser'Edreth, a wizard with electronics—and a freelance thief.

Deliberately solitary, unencumbered by family or friends, he immerses himself in his profession, rising to a pinnacle of skill so exalted that the planetary crime boss seeks him out with a commission to steal.

He refuses the commission, of course. That's his first mistake.

Gem's hidden past proves an unexpected liability and his plans to leave the planet go catastrophically awry. Suddenly embroiled in interplanetary politics, a potential interstellar war, and in possession of an ancient object of power and an unwanted cousin, Gem discovers that the mysterious Witness for the Telios may hold the key to his salvation—or his undoing.

Dragon Tide

Kareen yos'Phelium Clan Korval has always done everything that was proper, rising by study and by example to become the foremost scholar of the Liaden Code of Proper Conduct on Liad—and perhaps in the galaxy. Indeed, it seems that the only people she cannot influence to seemly action are the members of her own Clan. Now, with Plan B in effect, Kareen must act. Is she merely an expert of the Code, or is she a DAUGHTER OF DRAGONS?

Trees propose, dragons dispose. So it has been for many cycles of growing, many lives of dragons. Trees and dragons alike prosper in cooperation, and when the trees do well, the world does well. One day, though, the world is turned upside down: A tree is uprooted; a young dragon is cast into action—and neither one knows what other menace may be born on this DRAGON TIDE.

This is a fantastic book. I hope that someday there will be a sequel, as it very clearly has room for one.

Great story and characters. It is clearly the first in a series and elegantly sets the stage for a much larger story - you can see the hints for a number of interesting issues and questions that could be explored in later books. Does anyone know if Baen has or will engage Lee & Miller for the Sequel(s)? Ah, damn looks like "Web of Trident" has very bad karma - check out http://rolanni.livejournal.com/435900.html

Great book, one of the best of Miller's many books. Hoping that there is another serial in the works or already completed........Enjoyed it all and could not put it down until done.

4. A. J. on 5/29/2009, said:

This was a great book. I was pained and dismayed to learn that the sequel is on an indefinite hold. That is a great pity because this is a wonderful story with well-written characters and an imaginative universe. The novel so clearly demands a sequel with that ending the way it was. Read the book and join the outcry for that sequel so Baen will publish it. Evidence suggests that it's already written and just waiting for a publisher to snap it up and make it available to us. Its title is or was to be: Web of the Trident and Amazon had already begun to publicize the date in which it would become available. Therefore, it must exist in outline at least if not in draft.

Both are excellent books. However, to correct A. J. The sequel does not exist.
