Dragon Ship - eARC
by Sharon Lee & Steve Miller

#5 from Baen in the award-winning Liaden Universe® saga. Space ships, action, adventure—all tied together with a strong dollop of romance and intrigue.

First Class courier pilot Theo Waitley was already known as a nexus of violence—and then she inherited the precarious captaincy of a mysterious self-aware ship. Now she has a trade route to run for Clan Korval while she convinces the near mythic ghost ship Bechimo—and herself—that she wants to commit herself as the human side to their immensely powerful symbiosis. While her former lover battles a nano-virus that’s eating him alive, Theo is challenged to rescue hundreds of stranded pilots and crewmen from an explosive situation in near orbit around a suddenly hostile planet. Lovers, enemies, an ex-roomie, and a jealous spaceship are all in peril as Theo wields power that no one in the universe is sure of, especially her.

There are some things afoot as Clonak would say. This story line is getting even better. Korval on Sure bleak is involved too. The action is centered on Bechimo and Theo of course. Both a couple of hotheads. Really good. Kamele and Daav are heading somewhere in this plot. Real interested to see where. Daav was severely injured in Ghost ship, and the tree gave him two seedpods. He is in the care of Uncle. Hints of Uncle having dramliza skills or great intuition? Errors, missing words and repeated story are present. This an ARC. They always put out clean books so all good. The big surprise? The character showing up at the end. The possibilities are breathtaking. And Win Ton is in for some hard times I'm afraid. Yes this will be good. For Korval fans, there are several short stories (chapbooks) coming out in e-format now that really open up these characters even more. I think they are thought experiments used for writing the main storyline. Recent ones on Jeeves and Daav are really good. Gregory: Uncle and Dulcy start in Crystal Dragon and Soldier. Deep back story into Korval history. Worth the read.

Exactly who is Uncle and where did he come from? Another Tree? What is wrong with Win Ton? Loved the ARC, can't wait for the polished version!

I like all of the Lee/Miller books, but lately the books seem to lack a little focus. The story is rambling all over the place and then it ends very abruptly, not even with a real cliff hanger, but kind of in mid sentence. I loved the book because I got to meet all my favourite characters again, but if this book had been my first Lee/Miller book, I probably would not have bought any others, which would have been a shame.

I am not fond of this new habit of Lee and Miller of ending books mid-story. I know it is becoming more common with authors but as a reader, it pisses me off. The eARC version didn't have too many errors that bothered me personally. I actually expected more. The story is well-written and interesting and drew me in. Being kicked out of it before it was completely told was jarring and makes me less likely to pick up new Liaden Universe books.

This book is picking up dangling threads from all over the Liaden Universe and weaving them into a growing new carpet. I was saddened to find the pattern is far from complete!

So glad to see new Liaden material! As usual, Lee & Miller deliver a great read with characters that you want to hang out with.

A good book, unfinished. A very abrupt ending. I wish this site would give a page count or file size before I purchase. A chapter count is useless, as some chapters are as short as a screen and a half. I'm getting tired of buying half of a story. Several popular authors seemed to have picked up this stunt. It is discouraging me form buying the E-arc version.

This sequel to Ghost Ship follows Theo Waitely, pilot of the intelligent ship Bechismo, as she follows a new trading route designed by Korval Master Trader Shan yos Galan. Theo is a brilliant pilot in need of a little more socialization- and that is just what she gets as she learns to handle professional ups and downs, makes new allies, re-connects with old friends and encounters a dangerous enemy. This is a great read- can't wait for the next book in this series!
