Plan B
by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller

A Liaden Universe® Novel

Val Con yos'Phelium is a fugitive. The heir of Clan Korval is wanted by the covert Liaden agency known as the Department of the Interior, whose rulers have declared unofficial war against the entire clan. With only his love, Miri Robertson, by his side, Val Con plans a desperate gamble by forming an alliance with Clan Erob on the planet where Miri was born.

But Val Con's cousin, Shan yos'Galan, can't wait for help that may never arrive. With enemy agents closing in, he invokes Plan B—setting in motion a series of events that will have dire consequences not only for him and his life-mate Priscilla Mendoza, but for all of Liad . . .

"Sharon Lee and Steve Miller are a great writing team. Plan B is compelling space adventure with a capital A."
A. C. Crispin, author of the StarBridge series and Star Wars: The Han Solo Trilogy

"An exciting romp that provides their fans a great deal of fun."
Analog

"A rousing military space adventure with larger-than-life characters...packs more action into its pages than many trilogies...great space adventure, hard to beat for fans of fast-paced space opera." —Locus

I learned to read from the Heinlien's "Red Planet" in 1954 and never looked back... and for the "Liaden" universe, these two exceptional writers, I got the same feeling as when I saw the first, "Firefly" episode.. "Now *thats* what good writing is about!".. Only two others compare, Lois McMaster Bujold and her epic "Miles Vorkosigan" and David Drake "Honor" series. I love Baen Books. Thanks for pioneering the electronic book format long before Amazon thought and still doing it better!

A nice addition to the series. Anyone looking for more of the same will be satisfied. However, there's a bit too much serendipity and coincidence for my taste--that the protaganists should be so entwined is not unreasonable--but the authors should have spent more time better explaining how that came to be. (All of which started in Carpe Diem, but we are not fully apprised of the implications until this volume.) Specifically, how did Miri Robertson and Val Con yos'Phelium come to the nexus that bound them? A simple chance encounter in an alley that, with the attendant implications and a result of "life mates", is hollow and unsatisfying. There is a backstory here that deserves telling, and which belongs in the "Korval's Legacy" series. In short, while satisfying and entertaining, it's much less than it could and should be.

Out of all of the Korval books, this one is my favorite. Wish I could be there.

Another great book to continue this series. The books are highly enjoable by themselves, but I'd wholeheartedly recommend starting from the first one to get the full effect. Great stuff.
