Claws That Catch - eARC
by John Ringo and Travis S. Taylor

The Galaxy at Risk!

Humans have come a long ways since the looking glass gates first appeared and an alien menace turned a motley crew of scientists, sailors and force recon Marines into battle-hardened space adventurers. Now with other species running scared, it’s up to humans to take the lead and mold a weapon capable of checking the Dreen—a galactic cancer that has so far proved unstoppable. Their arsenal A hodge-podge of powerful technologies begged, borrowed and/or looted from across the galaxy and cobbled together on what has to be the strangest ship ever to ply the starways: the good ship Vorpal Blade II!

Great Ideas! Cool Space Ships! Evil Alien Butt Blasted to Smithereens!
"If Tom Clancy were writing SF, it would read much like John Ringo."
Philadelphia Weekly Press.

“[T]his thoroughly enjoyable ride should appeal to techno-thriller fans as well as to military SF buffs.
Publishers Weekly on John Ringo and Travis S. Taylor’s Into the Looking Glass.

You know, I should have known better... I could moan that there ought to be a spoiler warning on the comments, but I should have known better. I'll be optimistic and rate it a 4 based on the teaser chapters, but after reading the coments, I think I've already hit most of the meat and can see ahead to most of the dessert. I guess I'll wait to order when it comes off of ARC. Dammit...

As far as Ringo books go this is probably one of the weakest. As its been said first half of the book is pretty solid but the 2nd half feels very unfinished. Hopefully there is time to make some adjustments. And Christopher this is our opinons, your welcome to your own, but try not to bash those who dont agree with you.

Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and pretty much all non-fiction for that matter is really for entertainment purposes only. Anyone who feels that every book should be “Better than the LAST one”, or some friggin major societal effecting read is a moron. Is this the best book ever ? NO! Is it better than most? Yes!This book is just damn fine entertainment as most of the Baen books are, to say anything less means you have a seriously warped idea of what a sci-fi book is supposed to be. And to the John that made the comment… “Not something to be proud of Mr. Ringo, fans of yours are going to be disappointed and new ones....won't come back. I'm really wishing Mr. Baen hadn't died lately...” Dude, just shut the hell up.

The first half of the book is the usual grapping stuff, but the second (the anime stuff and the space station) half is rather maulk. Would have made two great short stories beside the main storyline, but the novel could have done without them (or one at a time if must). And there are also two 'Deus Ex Machina', one more than necessary. Some hints on the space bugs in the previous novel would have made their introduction much better.

Of the 4 books of this series this is by far the weekest. I hope John isn't just churning these out to fulfill a contract because he is one of my 3 or 4 favorite authors. I do suspect that this is the necessary "filler" book to turn the corner on future plot development. But seriously anime, singing Christmas Trees, bugs that come from the previous ship which was refabricated into the new one. How the heck did the bugs get on the new ship through the fabricator? I expect more from Ringo than this. I hope next time he delivers.

Starts ot very good but loses traction with strange manga themes and tring to leave open plots for further books.
